Complete Contact Lens Exams

Lumen Optometric completes in-depth contact lens evaluations and follow-up exams. Contact lens exams require additional testing above and beyond what comprehensive eye exams include. These additional tests ensure that your eyes remain healthy with contacts.

As one of our patients, you can always rest assured that we will always offer the latest technology to keep your eyes at peak performance.

Our goal is to introduce the healthiest and most up-to-date contact lens technologies to our patients. It's very common that new patients are unaware that newer contact lens options such as ortho-k or scleral lenses are available to improve their eyesight and lifestyle!

We utilize corneal topography on every patient to assess for corneal health and for soft contact lens, ortho-k, or scleral lens candidacy.
Corneal tomography is used to visualize both the front and back surface of the cornea when we suspect any corneal diseases. This tool allows for early detection of corneal diseases and also for monitoring the health of the cornea while wearing contact lenses.

Benefits of Contact Lenses

  • Clarity. While eyeglasses can obstruct your peripheral vision, contact lenses conform to your eyes to offer a wider field of view. Scleral lenses offer the clearest distance vision amongst all the different types of contact lenses.
  • Ease. Contact lenses don’t get in the way of an active lifestyle. Patients who exercise, play sports or like to be outside often feel less encumbered when wearing contact lenses. Daily soft contact lenses allow for the most day to day flexibility.
  • Unable to adapt to soft contacts? Ortho-k allows you to be contact lens-free in the daytime because you sleep your way to clear vision!
  • Improved eye health. If you experience dryness in the daytime with soft contact lenses, alternatives such as ortho-k or scleral lenses can help. Alternatively, if your eyes are dry upon waking in the morning, ortho-k can provide clear vision and minimize your morning dryness.
What is included in a contact lens fitting or yearly evaluation?
  • Evaluation of your vision through your current contact lenses or new contact lenses
  • Evaluation of the contact lens fitment (positioning, movement, rotation, breathability)
  • Introduction of newer, healthier lenses. Our goal is to ensure that you’re always kept up-to-date with the latest and healthiest options for your eyes.
  • Medical decision-making to ensure your eyes remain healthy under your contacts for your lifetime
  • A follow-up for new contact lens-wearers to ensure proper care and infection/allergy avoidance
Is there a separate fee or copay for a contact lens evaluation?

Yes, as it requires additional chair time and medical decision-making. The contact lens evaluation fee differs depending on your vision discount/insurance plan, but there is almost always a copay associated with a contact lens evaluation, no matter the insurance plan.

A contact lens exam is an elective add-on to a regular comprehensive examination, it does not replace a comprehensive examination. It is a contact lens-focused exam only.
