Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness in North America. Women are particularly vulnerable to cataracts due to hormonal changes. As of writing this article, the only treatment for cataracts is surgery. During cataract surgery, the doctor will remove the cloudy lens and replace them with an intraocular lens or IOL.
